New photos of our favorite bullwhipper (well, mine, anyway) have shown up online and can be viewed in rather expansive sizes here. Update: The photos have been removed by the "powers that be." You weren't missing much, as they were pretty standard promo shots. The second one is REALLY unflattering to Mr. Ford, especially with the standard joke about him being old enough to play his own father floating around everywhere. Now, I've heard some rather disturbing spoiler-esque chatter about Indy 4 that makes me cringe. I mean, this is a supernatural/religious based universe, right? Doing what it sounds like Spielberg is planning is... well... kind of like when your DM tosses out the fact that magic in the your D&D campaign is really the result of a giant computer that's running the medieval VR game your characters have been trapped in or something. It just kind of cheapens the whole thing for me. Not that he couldn't somehow pull it off, but it reminds me of how lots of classic sci-fi writers, in their later years, tried to somehow unify everything they'd written under one big reality. I dunno, Uncle Steven... I think you may have been hanging out with Mister Lucas a little too much...

Another update: Since the guys with the Ark of the Covenant yanked the Indy 4 photos, how about a look at the Joker from the new Batman film? While the performance is what will make or break this version of the Clown Prince of Crime, I can't help but wonder if someone involved with his "look" did work on the set of "Beetlejuice."

But TV news has some good stuff in it. "Chuck" has been renewed, and it is most definitely picking up the pace. "Journeyman" has also done some considerable growing, but it's still on the brink, not renewed but not cancelled for certain. If nothing else, we've been promised three more episodes, and "some answers," which are always appreciated.

In other Geeky TV, I've kind of grown tired of cop shows, so I hadn't paid much attention to "Numb3rs." That changed, at least for one week, when my lovely wife called me in to see last week's episode guest starring none other than Wil Wheaton! If you missed the episode (entitled "Graphic"), you can view it online for free (with commercials) here. Wil understands comics are a business, and that's why he's rich. :)

Rose Tyler will be back in TARDIS-country, along with two other female companions, it seems. At least one of my friends will be ecstatic about this news, and I'm sure the Whovian fanfic writers will have a field day with the Doctor's traveling "harem." I'm still not looking forward to that break they're taking in 2010...

And if you happen to be in Vancouver any time soon, you can take a Galactica Tour and see some of the locations that were used for the cities of Caprica. If you didn't catch "Razor" last week, do yourself a favor and either hunt down a rerun or buy the DvD. It was very well done, made a fine addition to the story, and handled the "disturbed character self-sacrifice" with a bit of unexpected flair that I was pleasantly suprised to see.

Well, it's late and I'm still a-workin' on schtuff, so on with the linkage:

- A while back, I blogged about Stephen Fry's "Voco" clock where his Jeeves voice would wake you in several amusing ways. The tracks have been updated to include a "Good Morning, Madam" model.
- This contains Half-Life 2 spoilers, but this instructive video explains how main character Gordan Freeman can be a bit of a jerk, especially with a flashlight.
- I still haven't had a chance to play "Rock Band," but here's a video of someone playing "And Justice for All" from Metallica using the drum kit. Dare we say that you'll learn an instrument if you play enough?
- Where no cat has gone before! It's a real cat fight set to Star Trek fight music. Incredibly appropriate...
- Ninjas are cool. Now, they're also horribly cute plushies. I think having these would bring honor to my dojo.
- Ramps is a fun little time-waster where you place and rotate ramps to get a ball to the target.
- And since it's been ages since I posted one, how about a good ol' point-and-click escape the room game?
- If you feel like entering a bunch of info and testing your photoshop skills, the makers of the Sarah Connor Chronicles are looking for some good ideas for promo posters. The winner will go to the premiere party and be spared when Skynet destroys humanity.
- Lastly, because it's always fun to end with horror, here's a comparative list of the unhealthiness of fast foods. What the heck is Arby's doing to their fries?!

Fast Food comparisons
[info]scaryjim
2007-11-29 12:43 pm UTC (link)
There's a real problem with those comparisons. The person writing the article has equated "small" with "good". But in the first 2 categories, his "best" pick actually has more calories per gram than his worst. So if you bought the worst pick, but only ate as much of it as you'd get in a portion of the best pick (does that make sense?), then it would be healthier. And frankly, if I'm buying fast food then I'm doing it for a once a month blow-out, and I want the big portion, dammit!. But more seriously, judging the healthy nature of junk food predominantly on portion size is a pretty poor basis. And anyway, junk food from chains is always bad, so why bother? Find a nice, friendly, local sandwich shop or something like that. Somewhere that does fallafel. Fallafel are good. Mmmmm!

Serving size has always kind of amused me. Like those "Ben & Jerrys" half-pint ice creams.

Four servings? Right. ONE.

Two servings to a bag of vending machine chips? Not in this country, buster... :)

Indiana Jones and the Close Encounter of the Fourth Kind? Well, it is the fourth movie... I still think having Indy go on a quest for the Talking Brass Head and have it be C3PO's head would be cool and make more sense - C3PO is effectively the narrator of the Star Wars movies, so he would be recounting to a modern audience events "a long time ago in a galaxy..."

As much as The Doctor can benefit greatly from having multiple companions (witness half the classic series), the rumour that Captain Jack and Sarah Jane will be in there as well make the TARDIS a bit too crowded...

And speaking of the TARDIS - does Kylie Minogue's character really have to be Talkie TARDIS?

Indiana Jones 4 could have been worse - Jaws Prequel Crossover! And, I wonder if Indy'll lose an eye, as in the pilot episode of the Young Indy series he was an old man with an eyepatch...

I was wondering about the ol' eyepatch as well! I was kind of hoping Jones would go after the "Spear of Destiny" or something similar. And Commies probably won't be as fun for villains as Nazis, but you gotta move with the historical times, I suppose.

As for a crowded TARDIS, I wonder if it'll still have all the space (other than the control room and the wardrobe area) we saw in the Tom Baker era. Of course, he could have been jettisoning rooms for thrust...

If there's a shark in Indy 4, I expect Harrison Ford to jump it while riding a motorcycle.

Bzzt! Wrong! Thanks for playing! Here's some lovely parting gifts..

Lucas has said that Star Wars is narrated by R2D2, after having been found in another galaxy, far, far away, after a long, long time adrift...

The wife and I love thier sammiches when out on the road. And while she goes curly and I go with the homestyle, I wonder if it wouldn't be healthier (so to speak) to just grab two roast beefs instead.

Our nearest Arby's closed and became a 24-hour Mexican restaurant. :(

I'm glad Journeyman isn't canceled yet. I thought that the last episode was the best one yet. I can't really point to anything specific, but it feels like they're getting into a groove. Like the characters fit with each other a little better now.

I'd like to see a Scott Bacula cameo. One time when Dan is complaining about getting ripped away from home, just have Scott Bacula come in and say, "at least you get to go back."

well took me a bit to solve that escape room puzzle. It really got frustrating when I couldn't find the parts of the puzzle in the room. Just look really hard behind stuff.

I've clicked on, around, and behind everything I can (I think), and I still haven't been able to make much progress. I've opened the box where the puzzle pieces go, and I found two of them, but I can't find anything else beyond that. Does entering the code on the keypad do anything? It doesn't seem to for me...

Oh, indeed. I think she's supposed to represent the 'realpolitik' of a military course of action, one that concerns itself with prosecuting a war instead of protecting/rebuilding a civilian population.

And we kind of knew that was coming. However, her relationship with Six was a bit unexpected, but explains her harsh treatment being more than just a desire to get information.

1) Chuck hasn't been renewed; it's just received a full season order. Of course, if the writer's strike isn't resolved, that won't mean diddly-squat.

2) Numb3rs is a really good show, I enjoy it highly. The Wil Wheaton episode, though, was easily one of its best (love the Christopher Lloyd-Judd Hirsch scene).

3) Reaper still rocks.

Ahhh. Well, it's good news for fans at least; they shouldn't have to buy a DvD set to see any "unaired episodes" of Chuck.

And I would like to watch more Numb3rs; I just haven't gotten into the habit. And I think his name is "Keith Devlin," he's NPR's Weekend Edition "Math Guy" who has lent his skills and ideas to the show in the past, so I guess I have a duty to watch, eh? :)

oye, its been a long time since I've played with one of those. i recently went over to Zero Punctuations site to download one of his adventure games. I played '5 days a stranger' it was nice, but not that humorous twang that most adventure games have. (abe's odyssey, and space quest for example). i'm surprised that in this day and age that Sam and Max (although very good) is pretty much the only game in town, literally adventure.

No Nazis? I haven't following the Indy buzz but I assumed that since the Crystal Skull was a Central American mythos that we might be able to tie it into a South American "Boys From Brazil" sorta scenario or something.

And as for the Joker.. you got to admit, for a guy who got dunked in a vat of industrial acid that looks about right.

It's the Michael Keaton hair that gets me, along with that "raised eyebrow" thing. I wonder if the soundtrack will include "Day-O". :)

And I think I read that we're getting communists because it's supposed to take place in the late 50's. Now, if it IS in central America, we could be headed into a trap-laden bunker that was built by Nazis, I suppose.

I did a quick hunt about Crystal Skulls, and the wikipedia page has some interesting tidbits:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_skull

Indiana Jones has apparently sought them before, at least in the "fiction" citations. :)

That's because I fear that if I praise it too highly, it'll get cancelled. I have a history of liking shows too much and that somehow causes them to leave the airwaves (I call it the "Firefly Effect").

Seriously though, the narration is among my favorite parts of the show, and they do remind me of the Discworld novels. This is a show I definitely will own on DvD.

I also enjoy the guy who's in charge of the morgue. The looks he gave every week were priceless. :)
