Woot.com's Bag o' Crap... and other crap.

As promised, a film of me opening my three Bags of Crap. Since I had more than 3 items, I'm not sure where one "bag" began and another left off, but there's the result, set to music! Each item will get a good home, and I'm hoping to score the missing power cable from the manufacturer's website.

In other news, Nodwick #36 is on sale at last in our store! Ps238 #20 should be hitting stands this week, and ps238 #21 will be out soon as well. I'll have the latest comics at BashCon this weekend, as well as an experimental version of the "Zombie Chow Down" game the FFN guys were playing a few weeks ago (I'm working on a play sheet based on some rules from an avid fan of all things dice and zombie related). Playtesting will be in Toledo this weekend, so don't miss out!

From TV happenings this week: If "Heroes" has taught me anything, it's not to accept professional help from scientists; you wind up tagged or having your brain removed. Also, Battlestar Galactica has taught me the importance of putting a doorstop in the airlock door. :)
In related news, I've seen a preview of some of the Stargate SG-1 episodes that will air in the U.S. later this year. On the plus side, they're standard fare: amusing, exciting, fun to watch, etc. Sadly, I think they were written with the expectation of an 11th season, so this batch of mostly stand-alone stories is frustrating, as I wish they'd gotten a heads-up to further the main plot lines a bit more (namely, dealing with the Ori). But since we're getting DvD movies later on, I can't complain that we'll be left hanging (I hope).

- Lastly, I get several suggested links to Orsinal.com's site every so often, so why not post them all? These are challenging, well-made, and almost unbearably cute games. Fun isn't supposed to be this wholesome! :)

This year's shaping up to be pretty busy! I've got BashCon this week, then ChimeraCon, Egyptian Campaign, San Diego Comicon, Gen Con, DragonCon, and there's a sci-fi con in KC thrown in there somewhere, but I'd have to find the paperwork in the mess I call my office.

And I usually have some backboards handy for a-sketchin', but if y'all is needin' some lady with the big zoom-a-zooms, I'll have to send you to Frank Cho's table. :)

Well, I was just looking at my wall, with a nodwick/dragonlance thing you did for me at gencon 2001, and a ps238 thing you did for me at another gencon, and the raistlin you drew for me at a third gencon, and was figuring they looked lonely =)

Quick question. Are either Roaring Cloud or River Eagle the ghost Indian from earlier? I don't feel like digging thru my long boxes to check and see if he was named then...

Roaring Cloud should look familiar, but the version we've seen before doesn't remember his name. :)

As always, love the comics, but that YouTube video of the WonderWoman pilot was possibly the worst, most GODAWEFUL piece of flotsam I've ever had the displeasure of watching. And yes, I watched all the way to its bitter end with the ridiculous lift off and the doting mother.

I think another 5 to 10 minutes of mirror-vamping would have been welcome, don't you? :)

On a totally comic-geek note, was this made before DC comics decided Wonder Woman could fly on her own?

I don't know if I could have taken any more of the mirror sequence with her turning one way and the mirror image turning the opposite.

Good question as far as her ability to fly though. That looked to pre date the old JLA cartoons where she still had her invisible jet. Granted the JLA cartoons were far from the actual DC comic books. Really, Wonder Twins, and GLEEK?

And don't forget Wendy and Marvin!

I think those characters need the Alan Moore treatment.

Oh, don't even get me started. Somewhere the makers of these cartoons felt it was necessary to put in superfluous characters for no other reason than comic releif. Think Thundercats, and SNARF. What kind of name is that? Did they even realize what the term "snarf" meant when they created that character?

Oh, jeeze, yeah. Just about every Hanna-Barbara production threw some odd creature or sidekick into their "teen cartoons." Then there was Bat-Mite and his ilk. Thank goodness the Paul Dini/Bruce Timm cartoons didn't do that as well.

I noticed the screwy mirror image problem, but I twigged why they did it, they wanted to have the over-the-shoulder viewpoint but couldn't without having the camera visible: cue one mirror filmed slightly off-angle, with a body-double stood in front of the camera.

I have to agree, though, my response was one of:

Oh.

My.

God.

I actually do like the old 60's Batman show, but this was just plain awful.

I wholeheartedly concur. Of course I do Quality Assurance for a living and consistency is important to me.

For example, last night I was watching Jurassic Park, again. When the egg in the nursery hatched the robotic arm held the egg so as to allow the baby velociraptor to extricate itself from it's confines. But in one camera angle change the arm was inexplicably gone. That bugged me way more than it should have.

I notice that every time I watch! Of course, it doesn't help that I visit http://www.moviemistakes.com every so often.

I've even got Cristi noticing mistakes in her favorite films, and she gripes at me every time she sees one now. :)

I just wish I still had my VHS recording of "AL TV" or "Doctor Demento's top 20 Demented Video Countdown." My sister and I were also hooked on "Remote Control." She was MUCH better at guessing the videos during the speed round than I ever was.

It's nice to see the "public access" vibe the network used to have, though, right?

I take it back Aaron. You didnt steal my crap. You eaaaarned it. Nice little montage there - you still doing the video thing with your 45 second shots from your camera?

If you need to upgrade cameras - I HIGHLY recommend the Canon A610 or its kind. It does video until you run out of room (and I have a 2GB card in mine) AND it has the best macro that I have ever experienced. I got mine because I throw all kinds of oddness on ebay that requires me to get things like serial numbers and such. It focuses down to 1 cm very nicely.

Good job again!

I picked up a used RCA cc9373 MiniDV camera, which seems to work okay, but the audio (other than being lame, in this example) had a few hiccups in it. I'm not sure if that means the heads need cleaning or if the equally used tapes that came with the camera need to be tossed out.

Look for more video as I slowly get the bits and pieces of my next art project! God help us all... :)

I think the mirror sequence in Wonder Woman would have been better if we were getting the full resolution. The actress playing the mirror version was Linda Harrison, the beautiful savage woman from Planet of the Apes. However, the resolution of the You-Tube video is so low that I couldn't even see that it was a different person.

It's more than a little humorous that the actress playing the reflection has been in more stuff than the title character.

Although it's even funnier that it took four whole people to write the script. Who knows what would have happened if the other 96 monkeys were allowed on their typewriters that day!

The conspiracy has ended, and my FLCS pulled PS238 properly. And it is AWESOME. It really takes some doing to have a time travel story wrap up in a coherent way.

My inspiration for time-travel tales is Babylon-5's "War without End." I think I'm done with time travel for a while, at least in such a continuity-heavy form. However, Zodon's trip did include two "appearances" in the future, so we'll see him pop up again soon. :)

"coherent"?

Maybe, but I'm considering pulling out my old issues to pieces the relative sequences together.

Oh, and I saw that "different interface" video last week, after a friend sent me a link.
