Henchman Publishing makes a change!
Big doings goin' on here at what used to be Henchman Publishing. We're now Do Gooder Press, LLC! So what the heck is goin' on? Well, for starters, ps238 is going to go monthly. I'm also going to start posting comic pages at ps238.com starting with issues 1 and 2 in their entirety and then putting up pages from subsequent issues on a 3-day-a-week schedule. This'll start by next week, if all goes well. Nodwick and FFN will still update as per usual. Both comics will run in ps238 as backup features.
"What? Nodwick is a backup?" Yep, after Nodwick 36 ships from the printer, our Hench-pal is going to keep on lugging loot here, in the pages of Dragon Magazine, and in the pages of ps238. Why? Well, it's a long story to do with sales numbers, fan response to ps238, and doing what I have to in order to keep this business going. Nodwick has been my passion for seven years now, but sadly, not everyone has stuck with him. Being a bi-monthly comic was part of that, I'm told, as retailers (and readers, often) would rather have regular monthly comics rather than bi-monthly. I've been shown numbers that reflect the phenomenon of middling monthly comics outselling brilliant but bi-monthly publications.
But this isn't just about keeping a roof over my drawing table! Ps238 has really expanded my horizons. I've got a school full of super-kids, each with their own stories to tell. And then there's Tyler, the boy with no powers, who has won the hearts of just about everyone I run into. This con season was a real eye-opener. For every Nodwick purchase, there were about three ps238. Almost everyone told Cristi and me, "I love Nodwick, but ps238 is my FAVORITE," and so forth. I'm pretty slow on the uptake most days, but I got this one cold.
Does this mean the end for our Henchman and his party? By no means! In fact, I think I'll be able to finally unite the comic and webcomic continuities soon, and delve into longer-form stories with strips rather than pages. More Nodwick collections are in the offing in 2007, so be sure to look out for those (along with Nodwick's movie appearance in "Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising") this summer!
And readers of The Maine Edge will be able to enjoy Full Frontal Nerdity in print! Yes, our gang of geeks will make a weekly appearance in this fine New England publication. They must have rolled a natural 20 on something, but I'm not sure what. :)
Turning to news of the nerdy, we lead off with a peek into what "Lost" writer J.J. Abrams is saying about the Star Trek prequel movie he's working on. It worries me a little that he'd prefer viewers not know much about Star Trek when they see it, but after the more recent Trek films, I don't see how he can do much worse. Not that all current Trek offerings are bad; Of the latest Trek show, "Enterprise," I can say that I'd gladly recommend the fourth season to anyone... except for the series finale. Berman & Braga weren't calling the shots, and they got writers that were so good that the most unpolished thing on the show was the acting (grin). Three-show arcs, stories about characters and development of the Federation... it was what the show should have been from the start. I'm also hearing rumors about a new Star Trek cartoon that takes place after "Next Generation." If I find anything concrete, I'll be sure to toss up a link.
Linkstains:
- Here's a forum that's got just about just about every leaked image from the new Transformers movie. I'm still not wild about Megatron, but I guess there's no good way to pull off the original design.
- Long ago, I played the original "Rayman" video game. He's being revived, as these ads demonstrate. The bunnies are the "villains," and they seem to like yelling "DAAAAAAHHH!" a lot. It's intriguingly hilarious.
- Since I mentioned J.J. Abrams (of "Mission Impossible III" fame), I think it's only fair I post this video using the audio from MI3's trailer combined with 'Finding Nemo' footage. Stick around for the explosions; that's when it gets disturbingly funny.
- I want this aquarium. Or a pony. Whichever.
- Here's a pretty cool idea for a clock-oriented art project. I've got some old hardcover gaming books which are falling apart that would make nifty timepieces!
- Bruce Campbell has made Old Spice cool to use, I suppose. You can say "I don't smell like my dad. I smell like Ash. Hail to the King, baby!"
- Flash Element TD is a game where you purchase and set up towers with the goal of having said towers destroy as many enemy units as you can as they run through a nearby maze. Based onWorld of Warcraft.
