Wow! We're a fountain of comic books!

Nodwick 32 should be in fine comic shops everywhere this week or next! It'll be available here later this month, as soon as I get my copies. And ps238 #16 is headed to press soon! And did I mention "Truth, Justin and the American Way" issue #2 was just turned in for publication? It's just raining comics 'round these parts, and I'm not letting up!

And let's not just discuss MY comics. Girl Genius Volume #4 is out in softcover! You owe it to yourself to pick it up, bring it home, slap it on that slab in the north tower, and bring it to life during the next thunderstorm! Seriously, this is the comic that both Cristi and I love, and I think it frustrates her even more than my own comics; apparently, the Foglios need to write/draw/color faster... :)

On a completely different topic: Computer mice. I love the design and feel of the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. The guts of it, however, stink. Our household has gone through at least four of the things, and in each case the left mouse button began to fail in about six months. Again, we LOVE the design and feel of these mice. I've just never had a Microsoft mouse of any kind go kaput so regularly. So, I'm giving the Logitech LX7 cordless mouse a whirl. So far, so good. I wish it fit my hand better (the Intellimouse was a larger physical object), but being able to remove the mouse from my WACOM tablet without a cord getting in the way is a plus.

A few weeks ago, I blogged about the Wheel of Time series. Imagine my surprise when I find out that there was a Wheel of Time first-person shooter game! It was picked in 2003 as one of the most underrated games of all time, and it sounds like real fun! I'm a big fan of plot-based FPS games (Half-Life, anyone?) and this one sounds like a doozy. Plus, for us cheapskates, it's bargain-bin priced and it uses the Quake III engine (which is nice and gentle on creaky old graphics cards in creaky old 4X AGP slots). So grab your terangreal and head for the nearest discount software outlet!

And speaking of video games, while I wasn't able to make it to E3 this year, I came across this promo film for the PS3. It looks great. Phenomenal, in fact. So can we PLEASE drop the price of the PS2 under a hundred bucks? This cheapskate wants Karaoke and Guitar Hero. :)

The Return of the Linking:

- English spelling makes no sense. These poems prove it, and amuse while they're at it.
- While the first laptop in this stress test doesn't make it, the second has a feature I wouldn't mind for my fine china. Gravity, she is a harsh mistress...
- They Might Be Giants videos! Birdhouse in Your Soul, Ana Ng, and the Tiny Toons version of Particle Man! And the last one is an eye-pleasing animated festival of TMBG-ness, Bastard Wants to Hit Me! Anyone know the animator?
- How about some future ultraviolence with space orcs? Warhammer in CGI! Mind the little ones as it's on the bloody side.
- Hapland 3. Don't ask me how to solve this one; It kicked my butt.
- Need to stop someone from talking on the phone so much? Get the Phish Phone. Sure, a few of our finny friends might become soup, but think of the rollover minutes!

The Warhammer CGI is actually the opening video for Dawn of War, an excelent translation of the 40,000 universe to an RTS... Watching the avatar of Khaine slaughter Orks is funny as heck to watch :)

I seem to recall rumors of a Warhammer movie. Is that still in the works, perhaps as a direct-to-video project?

3.x bites. Anytime I play it I feel like I'm biting tinfoil. And trying to follow its attack modifiers and init modifiers and AoO rules is like an icicle stabbing me in the eyes...

I wonder if it's a plot to drive players to the D&D MMO so a computer keeps track of all that stuff. :)

It's like the worst of both worlds. Not enough mechanics to be truly crunchy, but too many to be elegant, and what they do have is mostly arbitrary. And AoOs are bullcrap.

You want a REAL game? You go play Hackmaster.

Not to disappoint, but the Wheel of Time FPS really bites. That sounds funny coming from a guy who actually kinda liked Daikatana (for the multiplayer). Trust me on this: It's not worth trying to find an old copy of it.

I don't remember where I heard this, so consider it hearsay and take it with the requisite grain of salt, but it's my understanding that the Wheel of Time FPS was a good part of the reason for the delay between some of the later books, at least initially. Robert Jordan took a lot of time off his writing to look over the game creation and make sure it meshed with his vision of the world.

And then the game bombed completely and utterly failed to justify the time spent on it...

Haven't really looked into the chronology to see whether this checks out; like I said, it may be just a rumor.

Dang. I wouldn't mind seeing all the cut-scenes, however. I never played Daikatana, however.

My last major FPS binges were Unreal Tournament, Quake III, and Unreal.

I would never have loved "Ziggy Stardust" without it. A friend of mine (the real-life Nelson) brought it out for a party, and we all decided that we mostly stank at playing the guitar, but it was fun!

Wheel of Time is a decent game as long as you're prepared for the liberties it takes with the license. The fact that it's a first person shooter in a world that really doesn't have guns if fairly telling :D

Other than that it's pretty true to the series, and has gorgeous environments - they still stand up pretty well today.

We just can't give up five buttons, I fear. I do love the "back" and "forward" functions too much... that is, unless I accidentally hit one and lose whatever I was typing on a given website. :)

I've read other people have this problem, too, yet I've got MS mice from over 10 years ago that still work fine. I wonder if a diagnosis has been had as to why they fail so often?

This is purely speculation on my part but the animation from "Bastard Wants to Hit Me" looks a lot like the style from Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/bunny.php). Rather cute.

Not as slow as Megatokyo :p

I follow them both. One of the se days when I have some extra cash, I have to pick up the GG collections. My fiance will love them and I know a librarian who's always looking for more kid-friendly graphic novels who would get a kick out of it too.

I'll believe the PS3 footage when I see a person holding a pad. Last year's E3 footage all turned out to be mere mockup, even MGS (which was in-game standard, but unfortunately not actually running on a PS3). Not a single bit of footage has been shown on a PS3 system yet, so it's all still quite theoretical.

The one thing that had me wondering was how much of the vid was cinematics and cut-scenes vs. actual gameplay.

Of course, after seeing a friend's XBox 360 in action, it looks quite plausible. We've come a long way from my old Sears "Pong" console.
